A Melange of Love and Traditions: Divya and Gautam’s Cross-Cultural Wedding

This portfolio project beautifully captures the intimate wedding journey of Divya and Gautam, symbolizing the union of two Indian states and the merging of diverse traditions and cultures. As a freelance photographer with WanderOn, our paths crossed during an adventurous Spiti Trip, where Divya and I formed a genuine friendship. Impressed by my work, Divya had already entrusted me with the task of documenting her special day when the time came.

Divya, hailing from Mumbai with a Marathi-Malayali background, found her soulmate in Gautam, who belongs to a Punjabi family based in Delhi. Their wedding, although a small and close-knit affair, radiated immense warmth and significance. The project unfolds in two parts: the Engagement Ceremony and the main Wedding, each offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of their unique journey.

The Engagement Ceremony, held in Divya’s ancestral home, was a joyous occasion where both families came together to celebrate their union. Capturing the candid moments and emotions that filled the air, the photographs encapsulate the seamless blending of Marathi, Malayali, and Punjabi customs, revealing the beautiful mosaic of cultural heritage.

The main Wedding took place in a serene Gurudwara, where the couple embarked on their new chapter. The lens effortlessly caught the essence of every Punjabi ritual, unveiling the vibrant colors, the soulful music, and the heartfelt emotions that enveloped the ceremony. The photographs preserve the genuine expressions, stolen glances, and tender moments shared between Divya and Gautam, immortalizing their love story.

This project goes beyond traditional photography, aiming to encapsulate the narrative of a wedding that transcends borders and celebrates the diversity of Indian culture.
